Prof Toshio Suda accorded 2020 American Society of Hematology Honorific Award

For his outstanding contributions to the field of stem cell research, Professor Toshio Suda from the Department of Medicine at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Cancer Science Institute of Singapore has been recognised with the 2020 E. Donnall Thomas Lecture and Prize by the American Society of Hematology (ASH). He will present his lecture at the 62nd ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition which will be held in San Diego, California from 5 to 8 December 2020.

Internationally respected for his 40-year career which focused predominately on hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and the stem cell niche, Prof Suda’s work has encompassed the purification of HSCs, identification of cytokine signaling in hematopoiesis, and characterisation of HSC niches in the bone marrow.

Established in 1992, this lectureship and prize was named after the late Nobel Prize laureate and past president of ASH E. Donnall Thomas, MD and honours pioneering research achievements in hematology that represent a paradigm shift or significant discovery in the field.
