Reflections on 40 years of Chinese reforms

Prof Asit K Biswas, Distinguished Visiting Professor and Dr Cecilia Tortajadaz, Senior Research Fellow from the Institute for Water Policy, both at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS observed that over a 40-year period, from December 1978, China has moved from an inward-looking agrarian society to become the world’s second-largest economy and an emerging power. They opined that reform and economic development have increased China’s cultural soft power in the world, and China’s future sustainable development lies in continuous reform.
