Reunion on the green

Close to 5,800 alumni, students, staff and their family members had a joyful get-together during Kent Ridge Alumni Family Day, held at NUS’ Town Green on 13 August. Gracing the occasion were NUS Chairman Mr Wong Ngit Liong, NUS Trustees Ms Chong Siak Ching and Professor Olaf Kübler, NUS President Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost Professor Tan Eng Chye as well as other senior management staff.
One of the event highlights was “Canteen Food – Past & Present”, which saw selected canteen vendors whipping up tasty dishes for sampling and judging by participants and judges, one of whom was NUS Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) alumna Ms Violet Oon. Prof Tan Chorh Chuan then presented the prize to the Grand Winner of the competition — the Yong Tau Foo stall at Techno Edge. Three Long Service Awards were also presented to canteen vendors who have served NUS for more than 30 years.

A taekwondo demonstration by alumnus Mr Lai Han Seng and young exponents thrilled the crowd with their fast-moving actions while Catwalk-On-The-Green, featuring more than 20 student models and curated by FASS alumnus Mr Daniel Boey, proved to be a hit with the fashion-conscious younger alumni. Rounding up the day’s events was the biggest outdoor movie screening on campus where children as well as the young-at-heart, enjoyed the highly entertaining Kung Fu Panda 3.
