Shareholders should back only qualified directors

Assoc Prof Mak Yuen Teen from the Dept of Accounting at NUS Business School observed that most directors are elected to boards of companies with unanimous or near unanimous support even though the director selection process is far from robust. He stressed that shareholders need to exercise more informed voting, otherwise the quality of boards and corporate governance is likely to deteriorate.
