Study: Apart from taking medicines when necessary, weight reduction among pre-diabetic patients may prevent pathological changes

The SingHealth Duke-NUS Diabetes Centre, the Health Promotion Board and the Singapore Clinical Research Institute started a three-year follow-up study on early-stage diabetes patients where preliminary results show that patients who actively reduced their weight and took medication when necessary are expected to lower their glycaemic index to normal levels, thereby decreasing the risk of turning the pre-diabetes stage into diabetes.
