Companies can look forward to more help in their digital transformation journeys with a new partnership between the Institute of Systems Science at NUS (NUS-ISS) and the Singapore Business Federation (SBF).

With the support of SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), NUS-ISS and SBF will deliver a suite of digital transformation programmes that provides opportunities for SBF member companies to adopt and integrate digital change at any stage of their business growth process.

To initiate the collaboration, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Mr Khoong Chan Meng, CEO of NUS-ISS and Mr Ho Meng Kit, CEO of SBF. The MOU, signed on 16 October at the Future Economy Conference and Exhibition 2019, was witnessed by Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Minister of State, Ministry of National Development & Ministry of Manpower; Professor Tan Eng Chye, NUS President and Mr Teo Siong Seng, Chairman, SBF in the presence of representatives from some 1000 companies.

“Digital disruption is prevalent in today’s business environment, and companies need to embrace this change to remain relevant,” said Mr Khoong. “It is timely for NUS-ISS to work closely with SBF to promote the adoption of relevant skill sets for the digital economy. We are pleased that NUS-ISS and SBF goals are very much aligned, with a common objective of championing the interests of the Singapore business community through strengthening digital capabilities.”

Mr Teo, who is also an NUS Pro-Chancellor, stated that digital technologies are a critical enabler for companies to drive new business propositions, customer experiences and to enhance their offerings. “This partnership with NUS-ISS will empower our businesses with the tools and knowledge to build better digital transformation strategies that incorporate technologies, organisational cultures and mindsets.”

The collaboration encompasses the following areas:

Skills for Transformation Programme

The Skills for Transformation Programme is a full-suite skills development programme specifically developed to support companies as they embark on a digital transformation journey and develop their in-house talent to become change agents. Companies and their employees will work with mentors from NUS Business and NUS-ISS in the design, training and acquisition as well as implementation stages of the journey.

Digital Competency Roadmap

NUS-ISS will propose a Digital Competency Training Roadmap, which is a leadership-level training course, to help business owners map out their digitalisation strategy. The programme is designed to empower businesses with the necessary tools to grow through innovative digital ideas and a strong customer-centric journey.

Professional Diploma in Digitalisation

A Professional Diploma in Digitalisation, jointly awarded by NUS-ISS and SBF, will be developed. The programme comprises five courses and a capstone project targeted at individuals ready to lead digitalisation projects in industry.

Other institutes — Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic — will also play a vital role in the skills ecosystem by complementing these digital transformation initiatives with their individual courses and consulting frameworks.
