Why it is necessary but not easy to give delivery riders better benefits and protection

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to significant economic consequences for Singaporeans, with many losing their jobs and turning to remote and freelance work. With a rising number of them working as delivery riders for food delivery platforms, it is necessary, but not easy, to give them better benefits and protection. Dr Woo Jun Jie and Mr Shazly Zain from the Governance and Economy Department of the Institute of Policy Studies at NUS discussed the issues with such work arrangements, and highlighted that all stakeholders involved have to work together to find ways to provide fair employment benefits.
