World's top 20 in 4 subjects

NUS has been placed among the top 20 in the world in four subject areas, according to the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2016–2017 by subject.
The University was placed seventh worldwide for Engineering and Technology, breaking into the top 10 in the subject area for the first time. It was also placed 10th and 13th in the two new subject areas of Computer Science, and Business and Economics respectively. For the subject area of Physical Sciences, the University moved up a spot to 18th in the world. NUS is the leading Asian university in all four subject areas.
Professor Tan Eng Chye, NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost, said, “We are pleased that NUS has done well to be placed in the top 20 in four subject areas in the latest THE World University Rankings by subject, including being placed seventh and 10th globally for Engineering and Technology, and Computer Science respectively. This reaffirms our dedication to developing strong academic expertise, research opportunities, a supportive living and learning environment, and a nurturing university enterprise ecosystem.”
The subject rankings are based on the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings which reflect a university’s strengths in five areas that represent the core missions of research intensive universities: Teaching, Research, Citations, International Outlook and Industry Income. The weightings of the measures have been recalibrated for each subject area, to suit the individual fields.
NUS has been placed among the top 100 universities in the world for the following subject areas:
