Xiamen University honours Prof Hew Choy Leong

NUS Emeritus Professor Hew Choy Leong was presented with two distinguished awards by Xiamen University’s School of Life Sciences on 30 June 2018 for his lifelong contributions towards life sciences.

The Outstanding Contribution Award honours Prof Hew for his help and support in fostering research collaboration with Xiamen University. His efforts included teaching protein chemistry and molecular biology, arranging for Xiamen faculty staff visits to NUS, recruitment of graduate students to NUS Department of Biological Sciences, and the establishment of the Xiamen Winter Symposia.

Prof Hew also received the Special Contribution Award for establishing the joint Xiamen-NUS Biomedical Research Laboratory, funded by the Ministry of Education in China. The programme was renewed for another 10 years in 2018 with an annual budget of RMB1 million per year.
