Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and Singapore Chinese Orchestra establish partnership with 2-year MOU

Students at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST) and musicians in the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will get access to more development and collaboration opportunities under a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the two institutions on 20 Jan 2024.

The partnership will promote talent development and industry exposure in the areas of composition and arts administration for YST students, while SCO musicians will get professional development opportunities via YST’s continuing education programme and other educational initiatives. SCO and YST will also collaborate on artistic initiatives to further the growth of the music sector.

Dean of YST Professor Peter Tornquist signed the MOU with SCO principal conductor Mr Quek Ling Kiong, witnessed by SCO board chairman Mr Ng Siew Quan and YST Vice Dean Associate Professor Ho Chee Kong. The signing took place shortly before the SCO’s first SCO-YST Campus Rhapsody concert held at the Conservatory Concert Hall.

Said Prof Tornquist: “It is our pleasure to establish this new partnership with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, which will help advance the Conservatory’s connections with the industry as well as enable wider artistic opportunities for our students.”
