International liberal education examined

Yale-NUS College hosted the inaugural Symposium on International Liberal Education on 11 October at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore, where approximately 40 international thought leaders from colleges and universities around the world discussed the challenges facing higher education today.

The half-day event comprised two panel discussions – the first was a dialogue among Presidents and the second examined the future of international liberal education. Speakers included Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, President, NUS; Professor Peter Salavoy, President, Yale University; Professor Pericles Lewis, Founding President, Yale-NUS College; Professor Tan Tai Yong, Executive Vice President (Academic Affairs), Yale-NUS College; Professor Andrew Hamilton, Vice-Chancellor, University of Oxford; Professor Catharine Bond Hill, President, Vassar College; Professor Richard Levin, President Emeritus, Yale University, and CEO, Coursera; and Professor Zhang Jie, President, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
