Most-loved school

NUS was the only school to be featured in the SG Heart Map

NUS is the only school to be honoured as one of Singapore's 50 most-loved places in the SG Heart Map. The SG Heart Map is the first-ever crowd-sourced map of Singapore's special places and moments, gathered from stories by Singaporeans, which signifies their emotional attachment to these places.

NUS President Professor Tan Chorh Chuan was presented with a plaque at the official unveiling of 50 SG Heart Map places by Guest-of-Honour Minister Grace Fu, Co-Chair of the SG50 Environment and Infrastructure Committee overseeing the SG Heart Map project, on 24 May at Sentosa.

Prof Tan said: "We are happy to be identified as one of the 50 sites in Singapore which hold a special place in the hearts of Singaporeans. Over the years, we have not just provided a conducive environment where students can excel academically and grow, but also to develop lifelong friendships and special memories.

A signature programme celebrating Singapore's 50th birthday, SG Heart Map was conceived as a community initiative that marks and celebrates the places which Singaporeans identify with and call "home. Since the launch of the project on 14 November 2014, more than 80,000 personal stories, reflecting diverse choice locations and experiences, have poured in from Singaporeans from all walks of life. From these contributions, 50 frequently mentioned spots which represented some of the "most endearing and cherished places, were mapped out.

At the unveiling event, Minister Fu thanked Singaporeans for sharing their precious memories of special places across the country. She said: "SG50 provided us the reason to recall our journey as Singapore develops its infrastructure and built environment. The rich tapestry of stories that we have collected will enable us to weave together a fabric of memories and aspirations as a nation, as we celebrate SG50 together, and shape the next chapter of Singapore's story.

NUS Science student Teh Xiang Sheng, who identified NUS as the second home in his heart, shared: "Being in NUS for the past four years of my life, it's not just the studying that I will miss the most but it's the friendships I have forged and the fun we had that will be with me forever.
