Speaking of the collaboration, Prof Tan said, “What we want to do is to expose students to what I call deeper tech engineering types of programmes, to be part of a very unique engineering-based innovation culture, which is very rich and has a very long history, which encompasses the ecosystem that includes small companies, medium-sized companies, big multinational companies and universities.”

Highlighting the relationship between the two universities, Prof Herrmann said, “TUM has had a long-standing trusted partnership with NUS for close to 20 years. With both institutions truly dedicated to entrepreneurship education, the NOC programme is an excellent opportunity to further deepen our strong collaboration ties.”

The event also saw the signing of another agreement to further extend the collaboration among NUS, TUM and the German Institute of Science and Technology – TUM Asia Pte Ltd (GIST-TUM Asia) for the Joint Master of Science Degree Programme in Industrial Chemistry. Prof Tan and Acting Science Dean, Professor Goh Say Song signed the agreement for NUS, while TUM was represented by Prof Herrmann. Other signatories included Dr Waechter; Dr Alice Becker, Research and Commercial Cooperation Project Management from GIST-TUM Asia and TUM CREATE; and Ms Monica Markovits, Assistant Head, Faculty of Chemistry from GIST-TUM Asia.

The NOC programme, which started with NOC Silicon Valley in 2002, provides NUS students the unique opportunity to spend up to a year overseas, attending entrepreneurship classes at partner universities while working in leading entrepreneurial hubs around the world. Besides Munich, other NOCs are located in Silicon Valley, New York, Shanghai, Beijing, Sweden, Israel and Switzerland. To date, more than 1,600 students have participated in the programme; and NOC students and alumni have set up more than 250 companies.
