A valiant effort

The NUS paddlers demonstrated incredible tenacity as they raced towards the finish line

Closeto 200 NUS staff, students and alumni, some with family members in tow, turned out in force to cheer the University's dragon boat team on 12 July at the Bedok Reservoir. Clad in identical teamNUS T-shirts and waving matching clappers, the supporters transformed the reservoir banks into a vibrant sea of blue and orange as they cheered loudly for the NUS teams. NUS President Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, Deputy President (Administration) Mr Joseph Mullinix and Associate Professor Tan Teck Koon, Dean of Students, Office of Student Affairs were on the ground as well, encouraging the NUS paddlers.

The much anticipated and most thrilling 1,000-m sprint race ' the Prime Minister's Cup Challenge ' was flagged off by Guest-of-Honour Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of National Development. Displaying much grit and determination, the NUS men's team rowed to a second place finish while the women's team came in third.

Supporters turned the reservoir banks into a sea of blue and orange

In addition to the annual Singapore Dragon Boat Festival which took place on 11 and 12 July, the NUS dragon boat team also participated in other races, including the DBS Marine Regatta 2015 in May and the Inter-Tertiary Championships in March.
