Breaking the cross-strait stalemate by offering "no independence" for "no armed attack"

Dr Qi Dongtao, Research Fellow from the East Asian Institute at NUS noted that the political, economic, military and foreign affairs pressure exerted by China on Taiwan did not do much harm to the island's economic development but has led to an increase in resentment from the Taiwanese society, which helps the Taiwanese's ruling party in advancing their agenda for an independent Taiwan. He opined that a change in China's position could possibly lead to a positive change in cross-strait dynamics.
