Impact and significance of the 'Xi-Ma meeting'

Dr Qi Dongtao, Research Fellow from the East Asia Institute at NUS, opined that in order for the world to accept China's rise, China will need the acceptance first from Taiwan and Hong Kong which will be a long process of mutual adaptation. Dr Qi expressed hope that the outcome of the historic meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou on 7 November 2015 will be a great impetus to this process.
