NUS study reveals Muslims with diabetes can fast safely

A team of experts led by Assoc Prof Joyce Lee and graduate student Ms Melanie Siaw from NUS Dept of Pharmacy, has found that Muslims with type 2 diabetic patients can fast safely during Ramadan, if their medication is adjusted by a healthcare professional. It was found that they remained healthy and had reduced risk of the effects of low-sugar levels, including seizures. This is the first time a survey is being done on Muslim patients in Singapore with type 2 diabetes.
