Overseas internships open doors for aspiring entrepreneurs

Mr Liu Tian-wei, an alumnus of the NUS Overseas Colleges programme, had a stint in Silicon Valley when he was in the third year of his computing course. This laid the foundation for him to set up Xfers, a peer-to-peer payments start-up founded in 2015, and has grown rapidly and raised US$2.5 million in funding from Silicon Valley- and Asia-based angel investors and venture capitalists. Mr Liu attributed his success to the programme, which allowed him to tap the network in the US, as well as learn about raising venture capital and risk taking.
