Window period for establishing system over South China Sea issue

Dr Chen Gang, Senior Researcher Fellow from the East Asian Institute at NUS, noted that ASEAN and China are now expediting negotiations on a code of conduct in the South China Sea, which will aid in stabilising the state of affairs in the region. However, Dr Chen opined that uncertainties in the international arena, such as US President Donald Trump’s unclear diplomatic policy on Asia, has impeded the process of talks between ASEAN and China.
