Zika outbreak: Local strain weaker compared to Brazilian strain

A research led by Asst Prof Julien Pompon from the Emerging Infectious Diseases Programme at the Duke-NUS Medical School has found that compared to the Brazilian and South American strains, the local strain of Zika virus is less efficiently transmitted by the Aedes aegypti, which spreads Zika and dengue fever.
