52nd UM-NUS Inter-University Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament 2023

The National University of Singapore and University of Malaya rekindle longstanding and resilient ties post pandemic

Singapore, 5 June 2023 - After a three-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 52nd UM-NUS Inter-University Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament is set to take place again on 6 and 7 June 2023, where the National University of Singapore (NUS) will celebrate and reaffirm its strong and longstanding ties with the University of Malaya (UM).  On 6 June 2023, Madam Halimah Yacob, President of the Republic of Singapore and NUS Chancellor, will travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in conjunction with this annual tournament. President Halimah will be accompanied by officials from the President’s Office and the National University of Singapore.

The UM-NUS Inter-University Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament 2023 will see 80 golfers from NUS and UM competing for the Tunku Chancellor Cup. Mooted with the aim of fostering goodwill between NUS and UM, the first edition of the tournament was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1968. The tournament is hosted alternately by UM and NUS, with this year’s edition taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

UM Chancellor, His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, the Sultan of the State of Perak, will host this year’s tournament which will be held at The Mines Resort and Golf Club. The golf course was designed by the renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye and Vice Chancellor of UM Professor Dato' Ir. Dr. Mohd. Hamdi Abd. Shukor will also be present at the tournament.

 

About UM-NUS Inter-University Tunku Chancellor Golf Tournament

The inaugural UM-NUS tournament was held in 1968 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as an expression of the strong relationship between senior leaders of both universities. Since then, the tournament has been hosted alternately by NUS and UM. The annual tournament serves to renew the strong bonds of friendship and foster new relationships between faculty members, staff and alumni of both universities.
