Celebrating 100 years of Singapore’s healthcare community

The 100th anniversary dinner of the Medical Alumni Association was held on 18 November 2023, where over 700 guests and alumni members from NUS Medicine celebrated the momentous milestone together.

Connecting the healthcare professionals of Singapore since 1923, the Medical Alumni Association is the oldest Alumni Association for medical, dental, pharmacy and nursing graduates. Celebrating its 100th anniversary, the Association is dedicated to nurturing enduring connections among healthcare professionals, championing members' interests, and enriching Singapore's healthcare landscape. This milestone underscores the significance of community and solidarity in elevating the healthcare profession.

The dinner was graced by Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister of Health, Singapore, alongside distinguished guests, which included Professor Kenneth Mak, Director-General of Health at the Ministry of Health, Singapore and Professor Aaron Thean, Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

The Association presented a generous gift of S$1 million to Prof Thean for the Alumni Association Centennial Celebration Bursary Fund. The bursary fund will support undergraduates pursuing medical, dental, pharmacy and nursing courses at NUS who require financial assistance.

Minister Ong also presented the Alumni Gold Medals to alumni members Dr Lim Jia Yang, Mr Ng Cheng Tiang, and Dr Wong Keng Mun, for their contributions to the association through their service in committees and projects.

The night was filled with nostalgia and high spirits, as alumni members and guests gathered to celebrate the occasion.

Congratulations to the Medical Alumni Association for the heartfelt and significant milestone!
