Honouring our nation

Dressed patriotically in red and white, a good crowd of NUS faculty, staff, students and alumni turned out for the annual National Day Observance Ceremony at University Hall on 4 August.

Some 300 members of the NUS community attended the National Day Observance Ceremony

The event kicked off with the raising of the Singapore flag and two NUS flags, undertaken respectively by recent Science graduate Mr Chan Kuang Wen, Mr Ganesh Abdul Fathah Bin Abdullah from the Office of the Provost and Year 3 Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) student Sharifa Fadillah Binte Yaa’cop.

Mr Chan said that he was honoured to be selected as a flag raiser. Sharing his sentiments was Fadillah, who saw the responsibility as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”.

Together with the NUS Choir, the participants sang a heartfelt rendition of the National Anthem. The ceremony ended with the recitation of the National Pledge led by Year 4 FASS student Manali Mehta, Vice President, 37th NUSSU Executive Committee.
