In-person Commencement Ceremonies for the Classes of 2020 and 2021

The University will be proceeding with in-person Commencement Ceremonies in June and July, for the Class of 2020 as well as the Class of 2021. Safe management measures will be in place. The following letter was sent to these cohorts by NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye.

19 March 2021

Dear Graduating Students of the Class of 2020 and 2021

In November last year, my senior colleagues and I made the difficult decision to further postpone the Commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2020 to a later date in 2021. We made this call because of the then prevailing safe management measures, which included restrictions on large gatherings in Singapore.

Today, I am pleased to announce that the University will be proceeding with in-person Commencement ceremonies for both the Class of 2020 as well as the Class of 2021, from 17 June to end July 2021. This decision was made after detailed discussions between the organisers of the ceremonies, the Registrar’s Office and the Office of University Communications, with the Office of Safety, Health and Environment, and in consultation with the Ministry of Education. My colleagues in the Registrar’s Office will be sharing more details when registration for Commencement begins in end March 2021.

Your health and well-being, and those of your loved ones, remains our top priority. We will be implementing safe management measures that you and your guests have to comply with during the ceremonies. There will be some inconvenience, and we seek your understanding as we do our best to celebrate your accomplishments in a manner that is meaningful, and safe, for you and your guests.

My colleagues and I look forward to celebrating this significant occasion with you, your families and loved ones.

With best wishes

Professor Tan Eng Chye
