New Chairperson for ISS
Tech veteran Ms Janet Ang will be the new Chairperson of NUS’ Institute of Systems Science (NUS-ISS) from 15 April 2016. She will succeed Professor Christopher Chia who has served as Chairman of NUS-ISS since 2004. A member of the NUS-ISS Management Board since 2012, Ms Ang is currently Vice President, Industry Solutions, Systems of Engagement & Smarter Cities at IBM Asia Pacific.
Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and NUS Provost Professor Tan Eng Chye said that Ms Ang’s industry insights and vast experience in the technology sector and with one of the world’s leading IT companies would spur NUS-ISS to greater heights.
Prof Tan added, “The University would also like to express our appreciation to Chris for his commitment and service to NUS-ISS, placing it at the forefront of technology-enabled innovation through quality education, professional development and consultancy.”
An NUS Business alumna, Ms Ang was the recipient of the NUS Business School Eminent Alumni Award in 2014 and the NUS Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 2015. She is a member of the NUS Alumni Advisory Board.
In her trailblazing career with IBM spanning over three decades, Ms Ang has held various management positions including Managing Director of IBM Singapore as well as Vice President of Infrastructure Technology Services for IBM Greater China Group. She joined Lenovo in 2005 when it acquired IBM’s personal computing business, leading the global transition leadership team as Head of Lenovo’s Global Desktop Business Unit.
Ms Ang is President of the International Women’s Forum Singapore and she also serves on various boards in the community, including Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre and Caritas Singapore.
Ms Ang looks forward to using her industry experience to lead NUS-ISS to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the ICT industry. “It is truly a privilege for me to be the first industry professional to be appointed as Chairman of NUS-ISS just as our country is en route to become a smart nation,” she said. She added that she was honoured to have this opportunity to give back to both her alma mater and Singapore.
NUS-ISS was set up in 1981 as a partnership between NUS, the then National Computer Board and IBM, as part of the national strategy to transform Singapore into a knowledge economy.
