NUS Career Fest 2024 brings together over 300 prospective employers across 20 industries

There was much buzz and excitement at NUS University Town as thousands of NUS undergraduate and postgraduate students attended the first day of NUS Career Fest 2024. This year’s event is held over three days, from 20 to 22 February 2024, giving students the opportunity to interact with different prospective employers each day and explore internship and full-time positions in over 20 industries, including Information & Communications Technology, Engineering & Manufacturing, Finance, and the Public Sector.

Organised by the NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates (CFG), the event this year is themed “Your Future Career Starts Here”, inviting students to explore the myriad of opportunities available in the market and take concrete steps towards achieving their career aspirations.

Professor Aaron Thean, Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost, attended the event as Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony. He said, “NUS Career Fest embodies the University’s steadfast commitment to equipping our students for success in a future world of relentless change, whatever their aspirations may be. Our approach is multi-pronged. Besides a robust academic curriculum and dynamic student life, we build ample opportunities for students to gain critical employability and life skills, as well as meaningful exposure to work and industry. NUS Career Fest is one such platform where students can engage with employers face-to-face, gain deeper insights into the careers they aspire to build, explore the diverse opportunities available, and land a job offer.”

CTRL+SHIFT to your future career

This year's NUS Career Fest sees CFG in a unique collaboration with CTRL+SHIFT, a campaign by the Public Sector Science & Technology Policy and Plans Office, offering students a glimpse into exciting career opportunities in Science, Technology and Engineering (STEM) and learning how they could be part of teams and projects that will shape the future of Singapore.

In addition to interacting with prospective employers, students can also immerse themselves in fringe activities that run parallel to the fair. In line with the event’s future-forward theme, students can enjoy innovative tech displays from employers such as Hyundai, Dyson, and Changi Airport Group, as well as unique “BeautyTech” experiences from L'Oréal and Sephora. Students can even get a complimentary professional headshot taken for their resumes or LinkedIn profiles and sip on artisanal coffee between activities.

Students who attended day one of NUS Career Fest found the experience rewarding and meaningful. Muhammad Imtiyaaz, a Year 4 College of Design & Engineering student, commented, “It is great that I got to meet so many employers through NUS Career Fest, and I got to know many companies that I did not know about before.”

Being prepared is half the battle won

Prior to the fair, CFG conducted numerous workshops and clinics, providing opportunities for students to build on their skillsets and gain useful career insights. At the fair, students can receive on-the-spot resume critiques and quick career tips from CFG’s career advisors.

Throughout all three days of NUS Career Fest 2024, students can also attend talks conducted by overseas employers from fast-growing regions such as the Middle East, China, and Thailand, to gain insights into the professional landscape and opportunities outside Singapore, honing their global perspectives.

Ms Hazel Foo, Campus Recruiter from PricewaterhouseCoopers, shared about the fruitful time thus far, “NUS Career Fest is good exposure to interact with the students in NUS. This allows us to share the opportunities we have and allows the students to gain a better understanding of the brand as well.”

Underlining the important role that continuous learning plays in enabling a successful and resilient career long beyond graduation, students can also visit the NUS Lifelong Learning booth to learn about courses they may take on post-graduation.
