NUS researchers turn waste paper into oil absorbent

A team of researchers led by Assistant Professor Duong Hai Minh from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the NUS Faculty of Engineering, has given a new lease of life to waste paper by converting it into biodegradable cellulose aerogel. This novel “super material” can absorb oils up to four times its weight, making it useful in disasters like oil spills.
