Plan to use AI to help emergency call operators

AI Singapore’s AI Speech Lab, led by Prof Li Haizhou from the Dept of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NUS Faculty of Engineering, and Assoc Prof Chng Eng Siong from NTU, has created a speech recognition system to transcribe and log each call received in real time. For now, the system is programmed to recognise English and Mandarin with some Hokkien and Malay, though it can be customised to incorporate other languages. The Singapore Civil Defence Force and four other government agencies are using the AI system to ease their workload in emergency dispatch calls.
