Remembering 200 years of Singapore does not mean celebrating colonisation

Nur Syafiqah Ahmad Jaaffar, a graduate student specialising in History at NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, noted that the celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of Stamford Raffles’ landing in Singapore in 1819 is an opportunity to reflect and understand the nation’s history, including its colonial heritage.
