Inaugural Ridge View Residential College charity golf and dinner raises more than S$550,000 for its bursary endowment fund

Ridge View Residential College (RVRC)’s inaugural charity golf and dinner on 15 Oct 2025 raised over S$550,000 for students with financial needs. The event marked the first time a residential college has organised a charity golf event.

Under the radiant early afternoon sky on 15 October 2025, 143 members of the NUS and Ridge View Residential College (RVRC) community, alumni, and corporate partners teed off at Laguna National Golf Resort Club with enthusiasm and camaraderie. These golfers, later joined by additional guests at the gala dinner, made up a 200-strong community united to make a meaningful difference by supporting students with financial needs.

The charity golf and dinner events were held in conjunction with NUS120, the University’s year-long celebration of its 120th anniversary.

A total of 138 golfers, comprising members of the NUS and RVRC communities, alumni, and corporate partners teed off to contribute to the meaningful cause.

Deeper commitment to providing a residential experience

Through the generous and collective support of donors, sponsors, volunteers and participants, the event raised an impressive S$550,446 towards the RVRC Bursary Endowment Fund.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the RVRC Bursary Fund, widening students’ access to the residential life experience during their NUS journey.

With the funds raised, RVRC plans to establish the Professor Adekunle Adeyeye Bursary, named after Professor Adeyeye who served as RVRC’s founding College Master from 2014 to 2019. This bursary aims to rally alumni support, especially from those who knew Professor Adeyeye, to continue his vision of RVRC as a “Home Away from Home”.

Notable attendees at the charity golf tournament and dinner event included His Excellency Vilatsone Visonnavong, Ambassador of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to Singapore; Mr Vinothan Tulisi Nathzan and Mr Mohammed Syafiq Mohd Shokri from the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore; and Dr He Xiuqin (Business ’17), member of the NUS Alumni Advisory Board and President of the NUS Business School’s Mandarin Alumni Association. Their presence added a distinguished touch to the celebration.

The RVRC Bursary Fund aims to widen students’ access to the residential life experience during their NUS journey. Its recipients will includes students facing financial obstacles or who may not qualify for existing financial assistance schemes.

“Thanks to our donors, and especially through the funds raised from the Charity Golf and Dinner event, the bursary is off to a great start. I am deeply humbled by the generosity of so many who willingly donated so that others can now get a helping hand”, said RVRC College Master Associate Professor Sim Tick Ngee.

The event was also especially meaningful for alumni of RVRC, who saw how their contributions could have a tangible impact on their juniors and enable others to experience the vibrant residential college life they enjoyed.

“RVRC has always been a special place to me as it played a big role in my personal and academic growth. I want future students to have the same opportunities I had, to grow in such a nurturing environment, without being held back by financial worries. Now that I’ve graduated and am able to give back, I believe that even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference,” said Ms Ko Shi Jie (Life Sciences ‘25).
