ASEAN’s DEFA: An engine for pandemic recovery

To facilitate growth of digital services, Asean leaders have formulated a series of digital masterplans, action plans and roadmaps, with the latest being the Asean Digital Economic Framework Agreement (DEFA). Dr Xie Taojun, Mr Kevin Chen, and Mr Quah Say Jye from the Asia Competitiveness Institute at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS shared how the DEFA can build on Singapore’s experience and drive the region’s economic recovery. They noted that such an agreement will be a major step for Asean to fulfil its digital ambitions, and pointed out that the Singapore experience could prove invaluable in driving and guiding the negotiations.
