Visiting Raffles’ grave the day I turned 24

Sean Lim, a student from the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences shared his thoughts on the Singapore Bicentennial commemorating Sir Stamford Raffles’ arrival in Singapore in 1819 when he visited Raffles’ grave in London. He opined that while some condemn the ideology of colonialism, we should not denounce everything linked to our colonial history, and that it would be more helpful to be practical and acknowledge the benefits it has brought Singapore.
