Xi-Hung summit amidst a cross-strait deadlock

Dr Qi Dongtao of the East Asian Institute at NUS discussed the meeting between China’s President Xi Jinping and Kuomintang chairperson Hung Hsiu-chu, and opined that while the meeting will not lead to any substantial breakthroughs in cross-strait ties, the summit and the CPC-KMT forum would serve as an important platform to counter Taiwan separatism and spur people-to-people ties.
