How to find and treat the thousands with undiagnosed chronic conditions

Around 10,800 Singaporeans are living with kidney failure, the most advanced stage of chronic kidney disease. The condition places a heavy strain on the healthcare system, and this could be substantially reduced if even half of these cases were prevented.

Professor Chia Kee Seng, Founding Dean and faculty member at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at NUS, pointed out that the three highs – high blood sugar (diabetes), high blood pressure (hypertension) and high blood lipids, when left unmanaged, can lead to catastrophic diseases like kidney failure. Unfortunately, many Singaporeans have these conditions and are unaware that they do.

Prof Chia recommends how to manage the three highs and identify individuals that are undiagnosed to build a healthier nation.
