New Singapore study shows early immune system response in COVID-19 patients could cause respiratory distress

A team of scientists comprising Dr Eugenia Ong and Assoc Prof Jenny Low, both from the Emerging Infectious Diseases Programme of Duke-NUS Medical School (Duke-NUS) and the Viral Research and Experimental Medicine Centre @ SingHealth Duke-NUS, has found that patients with Covid-19 could have a dynamic and fluctuating immune response to the virus, particularly in the early stages of the disease. The finding could pave the way for research into existing or new drugs preventing harmful immune reactions that may worsen the disease.
