Top 15 globally for employability
Moving up two spots from last year, NUS graduates are now 15th most employable in the world, according to the Global University Employability Ranking 2016 published by Times Higher Education (THE). NUS is the third Asian university, and the only Singapore higher education institution among the world’s top 15 for graduate employability.
Into its sixth year, the latest Global University Employability Ranking survey was conducted with 2,500 recruiters from 20 countries, and a second panel of 3,500 international managers across the globe. The respondents were asked to define what they looked for in graduates and which universities they believed produced the most employable graduates. Participating companies covered all major business sectors, had more than 5,000 employees each and recruited more than 50 graduates yearly.
“We are pleased that NUS graduates continue to be highly sought after by employers around the world. NUS’ education stresses academic rigour, experiential and global learning, and real-world relevance. Over the past few years, we have also intensified our efforts to prepare our students for a dynamic, fast-changing workplace of the future. The latest initiative is the introduction of the unique Roots and Wings programme that is designed to equip students with intra- and interpersonal skills that are essential for graduates to be future-ready. We are also supplementing this by giving students global and experiential learning through highly popular programmes such as the NUS Overseas Colleges programme where students have a chance to work in fast-growing companies in high-tech hot spots around the world,” said Professor Tan Eng Chye, NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost.
He added that the University will continue to pioneer fresh approaches to inculcate in students a future-ready mindset, so that NUS graduates will continue to excel at work and make valuable contributions to society.
NUS also ranked top in Asia and 24th in the world in the THE World University Rankings earlier this year.
The Global University Employability Ranking 2016 was commissioned by French human resource consulting agency Emerging and conducted in April 2016 by European research agency Trendence.
