NUS Senior Vice Provost (Faculty & Institutional Development) Professor Liu Bin has been elected an international member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE). She is among 22 international members elected to the body in 2022, and she is also the first female Singapore-based researcher to receive this prestigious accolade.

Prof Liu, who is also NUS Provost’s Chair Professor and Head of the NUS Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, is recognised for bringing organic electronic materials into aqueous media, opening new directions in biomedicine, environmental monitoring, sensors, and electronic devices.

Election to NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. The membership honours those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."
