The Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) has appointed Professor Low Teck Seng, NUS Senior Vice President (Sustainability & Resilience) as its Chairman, with effect from 1 January 2023.

“SMI has been actively building and deepening maritime R&D capabilities through various programmes and initiatives since its inception in 2011. I look forward to working with the SMI team, the R&D ecosystem and partners of the maritime community to stimulate a more dynamic, resilient and sustainable maritime sector through impactful R&D efforts,” said Prof Low.

SMI is a joint effort by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, and the Singapore Economic Development Board. Established in April 2011, SMI develops strategies and programmes to achieve its mission with key focus areas in sectors such as port, shipping and maritime services. SMI charts the maritime research strategy and promotes greater industry-academia research and development (R&D) collaborations to be undertaken in Singapore.
