Prof Simon Chesterman recognised in The Peak Singapore’s Power List 2023

Professor Simon Chesterman, NUS Vice Provost (Educational Innovation) and founding Dean of NUS College (NUSC), has been named in this year’s The Peak Singapore’s Power List, in honour of his work in the field of ethics and governance of AI. The list is an annual recognition that celebrates and acknowledges individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, influence, and impact within their respective fields and the broader community.

As the Senior Director of AI Governance at AI Singapore, Prof Chesterman oversees funding research that ensures that AI technologies are developed and utilised responsibly, ethically, and safely.

Despite concerns about AI and its impact on humanity, Prof Chesterman recognises the huge potential it has. Citing the Asian Undergraduate Symposium organised by NUSC in July 2023, he shared how undergraduates from across ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) came up with innovative ideas about how AI and similar tools can be used to connect communities, modernise farming, mitigate climate change, and support mental wellness.
