Two prominent awards accorded to Asst Prof Jack Chia

Assistant Professor Jack Chia from the Department of History at NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences has been awarded the 2020 Social Science and Humanities Research Fellowship by the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) for his project ‘Diplomatic Dharma: Buddhist Diplomacy in Modern Asia, 1950s–Present’. The Fellowship was established by SSRC as part of efforts to nurture promising local social science and humanities researchers.

Asst Prof Chia has also recently won the 2021 European Association for Southeast Asian Studies (EuroSEAS) Humanities Book Prize for his book titled Monks in Motion: Buddhism and Modernity Across the South China Sea, which was announced at the 11th EuroSEAS Conference in Olomouc. The Book Prize is awarded to the best academic book on Southeast Asia published in the humanities, including archaeology, art history, history, literature, performing arts and religious studies.
